A mini tummy tuck — medically known as a mini abdominoplasty — removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen below the umbilicus and tightens the lower abdominal muscles. Unlike a full abdominoplasty, the belly button is not repositioned. The incision is shorter, the procedure is less extensive, and recovery is faster.

Mini abdominoplasty is appropriate for patients with localised lower abdominal skin laxity — a persistent lower abdominal pouch, loose skin below the belly button following pregnancy, or a C-section shelf — where the laxity is confined to the area below the umbilicus. Patients with skin laxity above the umbilicus, or with significant muscle separation extending above the navel, Ablative Laser resurfacing require a full abdominoplasty.

At Centre for Surgery, all mini tummy tucks include SAFElipo™ liposuction for waist contouring in the same session. No drains are required. The procedure uses progressive tension sutures — a technique that eliminates the need for drains by securing the skin flap to the abdominal wall at multiple points during closure, preventing fluid accumulation without the need for external drainage. What Is a Mini Tummy Tuck?

A mini abdominoplasty addresses loose skin and fat in the lower abdomen — specifically the area between the pubic hairline and the umbilicus. The procedure does not involve repositioning the belly button, which remains in its original position throughout. This is the key anatomical distinction from a full abdominoplasty.

The incision is made along the lower abdomen just above the pubic hairline — similar in position and length to a C-section scar, and well-concealed within the bikini line. The skin flap below the umbilicus is raised and pulled downward. Excess skin is excised and the lower abdominal muscles are tightened. Progressive tension sutures are used to secure the skin flap to the underlying tissue at multiple points during closure — eliminating the need for drains.

SAFElipo™ liposuction of the flanks and waist is performed in the same session, extending the contouring effect beyond the lower abdomen.

Mini abdominoplasty is most effective for patients who have relatively good upper abdominal skin tone and muscle integrity, with a localised concern confined to the lower abdomen — the post-pregnancy pouch that persists despite exercise, loose skin below the belly button following weight loss, or a C-section shelf.
