Last night, a spokesman for the Department for Education said: ‘We are committed to a registration system for children not in school to help make sure all children are receiving a good education, and recently launched a consultation to help end the postcode lottery of how attendance is managed in different schools.'

Concerns about the scale of youngsters missing out on their education emerged last year when analysis of Department for Online SEL 4th Grade Teacher Education figures by the CSJ found 93,514 pupils were mostly absent from school between September and December 2020.
